Quick answer: A Legend package is not covered by one blanket warranty. Family and fishing boats combine structural coverage with the 6-year WOWranty, while current pontoons use a separate 5 | 10 | Lifetime program. Mercury, ShoreLand'r, Minn Kota, Humminbird and Garmin may cover their own products. The HIN, model year and written warranty decide the final coverage.
A new Legend can arrive on one trailer with several different warranty providers.
That is the part most warranty summaries gloss over. Legend may cover the boat and qualifying factory-installed equipment. Mercury covers the outboard. ShoreLand'r covers the trailer. Minn Kota, Humminbird and Garmin may each have their own terms.
This guide puts those pieces in one place, including the claim steps and exclusions that matter after the sale.

One Boat Package, Several Warranties
The fastest way to understand a Legend warranty is to stop thinking of the package as one product.
It is usually several products travelling together:
- The boat: hull, floor, seats, wiring, pumps, canvas and factory-installed components
- The motor: Mercury outboard, controls, propeller and related rigging
- The trailer: Legend Glide-On trailer supplied by ShoreLand'r
- The trolling motor and charger: normally Minn Kota
- The navigation and audio equipment: commonly Humminbird, Garmin and other component manufacturers
The provider that built or warranted the failed part usually controls the claim. Factory installation can change that route, especially on current pontoons where Legend publishes broader coverage for factory-installed technology and electronics.
If two sources seem to conflict, use the warranty tied to the boat's model year, HIN, delivery date and product serial number. A current website summary is useful, but it does not replace the written warranty issued with the exact package.
Which Legend Boat Warranty Applies?
Legend publishes different coverage structures for family and fishing boats, R-Series riveted boats and current pontoons.
| Boat type |
Main structural coverage |
Other published coverage |
What to confirm |
| All-welded family and fishing boat |
Leakproof for Life for the original owner |
Lifetime floor warranty and 6-year WOWranty on most qualifying components |
Exact hull schedule, canvas term and transfer eligibility |
| R-Series / riveted boat |
Lifetime main seam warranty for the original owner |
10 years on most other hull components, lifetime floor and 6-year WOWranty |
Hull prefix, model eligibility and transfer conditions |
| Current Legend pontoon |
Lifetime structural parts and up to 10 years of labour |
10-year canvas and upholstery, 5-year tech/electronics/fibreglass |
Model year and whether the equipment was factory installed |

All-Welded Models
Legend's current WOWranty page describes Leakproof for Life as coverage against qualifying leaks through the hull structure caused by defects in factory material or workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the boat.
That does not turn every leak into warranty work. Impact damage, corrosion, misuse, poor trailer support, overpowering and unauthorized modifications remain different issues.
Legend also publishes a lifetime floor warranty against rot for qualifying treated marine-grade plywood. Material coverage and the labour or finish required to access it may not have the same term.
R-Series and Other Riveted Models
R-Series boats use a different structural promise. Legend publishes a lifetime main seam warranty for the original owner and 10-year coverage on most other hull components.
Older Ultralite, utility and legacy fibreglass boats may use their own schedules. HBW checks the HIN before promising a term because the current family summary cannot tell you what applies to every older hull.
Second-Owner Coverage
Legend says qualifying structural coverage may transfer once, giving a second owner protection for up to 10 years from the original purchase date.
The older owner manual calls for a prompt transfer application, an authorized dealer inspection, condition photographs, a fee and Legend approval. The public warranty page does not publish the current fee. Confirm the current amount and eligibility before including it in a used-boat deal.
What the 6-Year WOWranty Covers
The 6-year WOWranty applies to most qualifying non-structural components that Legend manufactured or installed when a factory defect causes the failure.
It is not six years on every part attached to the boat.
Typical built-in items listed in Legend's older detailed coverage include:
- Carpet, vinyl and Duraweave floor finishes
- Seats, upholstery, bases, boxes, frames, posts and sliders
- Switches, breakers, steering-wheel components, caps and windscreens
- Lights, horn, bilge pumps and livewell pumps
- Rod holders and other qualifying factory-installed hardware
Items that commonly follow a separate warranty include:
- Mercury outboard, controls, propeller and drivetrain components
- Trailer, tires and trailer wear items
- Minn Kota trolling motor and charger
- Humminbird and Garmin navigation equipment
- Stereo components, batteries and dealer-added accessories
- Bulbs, consumables and normal wear items
Canvas Coverage Is Model-Specific
The main Legend warranty page publishes 3 years on qualifying ProTech canvas material plus 1 year on stitching, zippers, seams and top components.
Current XT pages publish 5 years on the qualifying canvas material plus 1 year on the top components. Current pontoons publish a different 10-year canvas and bimini-frame term.
That is why a salesperson should not give one canvas answer for every Legend boat.
Why Current Pontoon Coverage Is Different
The older HBW handout treated pontoons much like family and fishing boats. Legend's current site now gives pontoons their own 5 | 10 | Lifetime structure.

| Current pontoon category |
Published term |
What the summary includes |
| Structure |
Lifetime parts, up to 10 years labour |
Pontoon tubes, cross-channels, seat frames, motor mounts, structural railing and wood decking |
| Canvas and bimini frames |
10 years parts and labour |
Manufacturer and material defects in standard mooring covers and bimini tops |
| Vinyl and upholstery |
10 years parts and labour |
Specified abnormal fading, peeling, cracking or loss of strength under normal use |
| Tech, electronics and fibreglass |
5 years |
Factory-installed navigation, audio, helm electronics, wiring, lighting and structural fibreglass |

Factory installation matters. A Garmin screen installed with the boat may have a different claim route from a screen added two seasons later.
The current pontoon program also does not erase normal exclusions. Wear, impact, neglect, incompatible cleaners, mildew caused by care or storage conditions, aftermarket alterations and unauthorized repairs can still fall outside factory-defect coverage.
How the Motor, Trailer, Minn Kota and Electronics Fit
This is where a buyer handout is more useful than a single manufacturer page.
| Product |
Current published summary |
Where the claim usually starts |
| Mercury FourStroke, Pro XS, Verado or Jet outboard |
Generally 3-year pleasure-use limited warranty plus 3-year corrosion coverage running concurrently |
HBW checks registration, use type and remaining term by serial number |
| Mercury controls and rigging |
May match the engine term when supplied and installed as part of the qualifying package |
Confirm the exact part and installation record |
| Legend Glide-On / ShoreLand'r trailer |
1-year basic coverage and 5-year fabricated parts and frame coverage |
Trailer VIN, delivery date, photographs and adjustment history |
| Most new Minn Kota freshwater trolling motors |
2 years on the product plus limited-lifetime composite shaft coverage |
Original receipt, serial label and authorized service route |
| Select Minn Kota QUEST / Advanced GPS models |
2 years with a possible third year after eligible registration |

Product serial and model-specific warranty |
| Garmin marine products |
Often 2 years for products listed in the current marine policy |
Product serial and exact product listing |
Mercury's 3-year limited and 3-year corrosion warranties are concurrent, not six stacked years. Any Mercury Product Protection or other extended plan is a separate written contract.
For a deeper motor explanation, read our Mercury Outboard Warranty in Canada guide. If an engine warning is involved, use the Mercury SmartCraft alarm guide and the manual for the exact motor.
The downloadable dealer guide also keeps the full Minn Kota product table, including Ultrex, Vantage, E-Drive, i-Pilot, CoPilot, DeckHand and factory-reconditioned motors.
Common Mistakes
Assuming the dealer can approve the claim. We can inspect, document and submit it. Legend or the component manufacturer decides whether the failure is covered.
Starting the repair first. Disassembly can erase evidence or create an authorization problem. Photograph the failure and confirm the claim route before work starts.
Losing serial numbers. A clear serial-label photograph at delivery can save a surprising amount of time three years later.
Calling impact damage a leak warranty. Leakproof for Life covers qualifying factory defects. It does not turn a strike, corrosion problem or poor trailer setup into a manufacturing defect.
Assuming removal and transportation are included. Haul-out, launch, shipping, towing, travel, diagnosis, removal and reinstallation may not be covered even when the part itself is.
What HBW Checks Before Starting a Warranty Claim
We start with the paperwork because that is usually faster than starting with a wrench.
- Boat HIN, model year and delivery date
- Motor model, serial number, registered owner and use type
- Trailer VIN
- Trolling motor, charger, electronics and stereo serial numbers
- Bill of sale and registration confirmations
- Maintenance records and any protection-plan contract
- Overall photographs, close-up photographs and screen or alarm messages
If the problem affects safety or continued use could cause more damage, stop using the boat. Do not cut cables, remove a transducer or authorize an outside repair until the warranty provider is clear.
HBW is an authorized Legend dealer. We can inspect the boat, verify the records and submit the claim, but the written warranty and manufacturer's decision still control.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Legend 6-year WOWranty cover every component for six years?
No. It covers most qualifying non-structural components that Legend manufactured or installed when a factory defect causes the failure. The motor, trailer, trolling motor, electronics, batteries, dealer-added accessories, consumables and wear items may follow separate terms.
What does Leakproof for Life cover?
For an eligible all-welded Legend, it covers qualifying leaks through the hull structure caused by defects in factory material or workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the boat. Impact, corrosion, misuse, poor trailer support and unauthorized modifications are not factory defects.
Can a Legend hull warranty transfer to a second owner?
Qualifying structural protection may transfer once for up to 10 years from the first owner's original purchase date. Transfer normally requires a timely application, dealer inspection, condition photographs, a fee and Legend approval. Confirm the exact boat and current fee before completing the sale.
Do current Legend pontoons use the 6-year WOWranty?
Current pontoons use a separate 5 | 10 | Lifetime structure. Legend publishes lifetime structural parts with up to 10 years of labour, 10 years on qualifying canvas and upholstery, and 5 years on factory-installed tech, electronics and structural fibreglass.
Is the Mercury outboard covered by Legend?
The Mercury outboard follows Mercury's warranty, not the Legend hull warranty. Current eligible pleasure-use FourStroke, Pro XS and Verado outboards generally publish 3-year limited and 3-year corrosion coverage running concurrently. HBW verifies the actual term by serial number.
Does Legend cover the Minn Kota trolling motor and charger?
The claim may start with Minn Kota unless broader factory-installed pontoon coverage applies. Most new freshwater Minn Kota motors publish 2 years on the product and limited-lifetime composite shaft coverage. Onboard chargers and maintainers publish 3 years. Exact Canadian terms are model-specific.
What trailer warranty comes with a Legend package?
Legend's Glide-On trailers are supplied by ShoreLand'r. The current summary publishes 1-year basic coverage and 5-year fabricated parts and frame coverage. Tires, alignment, finish, normal wear, poor adjustment, corrosion, abuse and alterations may be excluded.
What should I bring for a warranty claim?
Bring the bill of sale, HIN, delivery date, motor serial number, trailer VIN, accessory serial numbers, registration confirmations, maintenance records and clear photographs. If there is an alarm or screen message, record it before shutting the system down.
